The turbine accessory gearbox performs the following functions: engine starting, lubrication, and speed monitoring of the high pressure rotor shaft. In the General Electric LM6000, the accessory gearbox is mounted beneath the gas turbine at the level of the compressor front’s frame. Fitted to the aft side of the gearbox is the hydraulic starting motor clutch, which drives the tranfer gearbox, radial drive shaft, and inlet gearbox in A-sump to rotate the high pressure compressor rotor.
The following accessories can be mounted on the accessory gearbox:
- Hydraulic starting motor
- Clutch assembly
- Variable-geometry control unit
- Engine lube oil pump
- Fuel-metering valve hydraulic oil pump
- Two magnetic speed pickups (XN25-A and XN25-B)
- Transfer Gear Box
- Radial drive shaft
